2025 Spring Finished Compost Gift-Back
We’re offering free finished compost as a gift to our loyal customers and owners!
Collective Resource Compost Cooperative customers can claim a gift of up to 10 gallons of finished compost. Collective Resource Compost Cooperative owners can claim a gift of up to 20 gallons. You can also purchase additional compost for $5/5 gallons. You can pay for additional compost and register for your free compost on our gift-back page here. Everyone needs to register so there's enough compost for everyone, and so we can notify you in the event of a rain cancellation.
We’re able to do this with the help of The Talking Farm, who is graciously hosting our gift-back event at their Howard Street Farm in Skokie. The finished compost has been processed by Patriot Acres.
If you’re interested in volunteering at the gift-back to help members of our community collect their compost, please fill out this form with your available dates and times. We’re very grateful to everyone who wants to help out!
Open to our customers and owners only:
Sunday, April 27, 1:00–4:00 pm
Wednesday, April 30, 5:00–7:00 pm
Saturday, May 3, 2:00–5:00 pm
In celebration of International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW)
Open to the public, our customers and owners:
Tuesday, May 6, 5:00–7:00 pm
Sunday, May 11, 1:00–4:00 pm
The Talking Farm, 3669 Howard St., Skokie (Use the parking lot at the Tot Learning Center)
Bring your own tarp, storage tubs, buckets, or paper grocery bags. If you still have any of the grain bags that were donated by Sketchbook Brewing Company at last year’s gift-back, please be sure to bring those back to make use of them again.
Wheelbarrows will be available for moving the compost from the pile to your vehicle.
Additional compost is $5/5 gallons.
This compost, packed with microorganisms and fungi, is ready for any type of crop, your garden, or soil rehabilitation project. Mix it with 30–50% of another soil blend or apply 1–2 inches on top of existing soil.
In the event of a rain cancellation, you’ll be notified with an email. We’ll also make a Facebook post and update our outgoing phone message 2 hours before the event begins.
